1. What you are opting into
By entering your mobile number and checking the optional SMS consent box on a Shareathon signup, waitlist, or account form, you consent to receive account and service (transactional) text messages from Shareathon (Hogwild Fundraising LLC) at that number. Message types include:
- One-time login and verification codes (two-factor authentication).
- Waitlist, invite, and early-access status updates.
- Campaign account alerts (goal reached, payout scheduled, refund processed).
- Donation receipts and confirmations tied to your account.
- Two-way replies from Cottontail, our AI support assistant, when you message us first or ask about your own account.
Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt out and HELP for help at any time.
2. We do not send promotional text messages
Shareathon does not send marketing, promotional, or advertising SMS. Launch news, fundraising tips, and product updates are sent by email only, and only to people who opted into marketing email. There is no promotional SMS program and no promotional SMS consent box on our forms.
3. How we obtain consent
Consent is obtained through a clear, optional and unchecked-by-default checkbox inside the Shareathon platform. Consent is never a condition of purchase or service — you can join the waitlist, create an account, donate, and use every feature of Shareathon without agreeing to receive text messages. Every consent event is logged with a timestamp and the form it was captured on.
- Early access form (shareathon.com/early-access): The phone field is optional. Directly beneath it is a single unchecked box: "Optional. I agree to receive account and service text messages from Shareathon (Hogwild Fundraising LLC) at the number above — one-time login codes, waitlist and invite status, and campaign account alerts. Msg frequency varies. Msg & data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt out, HELP for help. Consent is not a condition of joining the waitlist or of any purchase or service."
- Account signup (shareathon.com/signup): The same optional, unchecked account-SMS box appears when signing up with a phone number. Leaving it unchecked does not block signup; login and account notices can be delivered by email instead.
- Share-by-text: A participant enters a friend or family member's phone number and taps send. The sender is responsible for only sharing with people they know who would want to receive the message.
- Member invitation: An organization admin invites a parent, student, staff member, or supporter using a phone number that person already provided to the organization. The invitee is never charged and can opt out at any time.
We do not purchase phone-number lists, we do not send cold outreach, and we do not share mobile opt-in data with any third party for their own marketing.
4. Message frequency
Account and service messages are sent as needed — typically a few per active campaign, plus occasional login codes. Personal share invites and member invitations are sent one at a time by the person sharing — never bulk blasts. Message frequency varies, and message and data rates may apply.
5. How to opt out
You can stop receiving SMS messages from Shareathon at any time. Just reply STOP, STOPALL, UNSUBSCRIBE, CANCEL, END, or QUIT to any message. We will remove your number from our active SMS list and reply with a confirmation.
To start receiving messages again, reply START or YES to the same number, or update your preferences in your Shareathon profile.

6. Data use and privacy
We store phone numbers only to send the messages you requested and to honor opt-outs. We do not sell, rent, or share phone numbers with third parties for marketing purposes. SMS delivery is handled by Twilio, our messaging provider, subject to our Privacy Policy and Subprocessors page.
Standard carrier messaging and data rates may apply. Shareathon does not charge recipients for SMS messages.
